<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a work burden required for operation management of a VPN established between a plurality of communication apparatus, respectively. <P>SOLUTION: A communication system comprises a plurality of communication apparatus establishing a VPN communication path therebetween in accordance with IPSec and the like and a management device which transmits control information to each communication apparatus in accordance with HTTPS, the control information to be used for formation and containing information indicating an opposite-side apparatus of each of the communication apparatuses, wherein each communication apparatus is caused to carry out processing for establishing the VPN communication path in accordance with the control information transmitted from the management device and processing for transmitting to the management device fault information indicating an occurrence time of a fault and contents of the fault in accordance with the HTTPS in a case where it is detected that the fault occurs on any one of VPN communication paths.
