摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel reforming method in which a heat energy of an exhaust heat level is used as an input energy for starting reforming and which does not depend on a catalyst. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A mixed gas of dimethyl ether 110 and air is used as a fuel, and the mixed gas is introduced into a pre-heated reaction flow passage 510 having a plurality of bent portions, and conditions of flow rate, mixing ratio and temperature are elaborately controlled so that the conditions of exciting a chain branching reaction of dimethyl ether at a low temperature are fixed. At this time, a major portion of the carbon component contained in dimethyl ether is converted into carbon monoxide, and hydrogen is also generated. Carbon monoxide can be converted into hydrogen by a water-gas-shift reaction in high efficiency and without using a catalyst. Since the preheating temperature required to excite the chain branching reaction at a low temperature is not higher than 300°C, the input energy can be reduced in comparison with a reformer using a normal catalyst, and the consideration to the deterioration of the performance inherent to a catalyst and the maintenance is not required.
