<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device for an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining an excellent image whose image quality is not deteriorated over a long term by preventing toner whose particle size is small from being accumulated in the developing device without complicating the developing device. <P>SOLUTION: By setting a toner accumulating stage to accumulate a specified toner layer by rotating a developing roller and a supply roller for a fixed time in a state where a specified potential difference is provided between the developing roller and the supply roller in a prescribed timing at the image non-forming (non-printing) time, and a toner discharging stage to peel the toner on the developing roller at a position opposed to a latent image carrier in a state where the developing roller is stopped, accumulation time in the accumulating stage is made longer than time taken until the rate of fine powder in the toner accumulated on the developing roller from starting the accumulation exceeds the rate of fine powder in developer, and is made shorter than the accumulation time in the accumulating stage when the rate of fine powder toner flying from the developing roller to the latent image carrier in the discharging stage becomes almost maximum. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
