PURPOSE:To provide a glucose tolerance improving agent capable of improving the glucose tolerance of a person having glucose tolerance disorder such as a patient of diabetes and usable as an agent for the treatment of diabetes and an agent for preventing arteriosclerotic angiopathy caused by glucose tolerance disorder. CONSTITUTION:This agent for improving the glucose tolefance disorder contains a partial decomposition product of hemicellulose obtained from the husk of corn, preferably partial, decomposition product obtained by removing starch, protein and optionally lipid, inorganic substance, etc., from the corn husk, extracting the residual part with an alkali to obtain hemicellulose and treating the hemicellulose with xylanase. The partial decomposition product is preferably adjusted to a molecular weight corresponding to the viscosity of 3-20cps measured as a 5% aqueous solution by a Brookfield viscometer at 60rpm and 25 deg.C. The improving agent is perfectly safe to human body to enable the safe and continuous administration over a long period as a pharmaceutical agent, food, drink or additives to the agent, etc. It can keep the palatability and taste of the food, drink, etc., in good state. |
