PURPOSE:To enable two stage fuel injection in random intermediate/heavy load operation area by forming main and sub-ports at facing positions on a barrel fitted with a plunger and forming an inclined groove communicatable with the sub-port in the head section of the plunger. CONSTITUTION:Main and sub-ports 12, 12a are formed in the barrel 11 of a fuel injection pump and communicated each other through an annular path 19 arranged between the barrel 11 and a body 10, An inclined groove 35 is formed in the head section of a plunger 14 fitted in the plunger insertion hole 13 of the barrel 11, and a throttle path 36 communicated with a fuel spill port 27 is opened to the central section of the groove 35. Secondary fuel injection can be obtained in random operation area by regulating the primary injection stroke of the plunger 14 and the minimum cross-section area at fuel leak section of the throttle path 36 under a condition where the main port 12 is closed by the plunger head section and the inclined groove 35 is not communicated with the sub-port 12a. |
