In a printer which prints a half-tone image on a mobile, photosensitive component by means of image exposure, light is used which is emitted by a series of LEDs. The locked image data of a line quantity are transmitted to the respective LED elements within a time period determined for an exposure of an image line, a number of times which corresponds to a desired image density. The respective LED elements emit light in response to each emission of image data and together produce a corresponding electrostatic charge image on the photosensitive component. As a result, a brightness gradation of an image determined by the number of LED light emissions is obtained. <IMAGE>
