PURPOSE: To produce the subject article having high photoreaction efficiency by supporting a noble metal on the outside surface of a photocatalyst layer. CONSTITUTION: A peripheral surface of the article 1 is covered with a photocatalyst film 2 such as titanium oxide film, and moreover, noble metal superfine particulates 3 such as platinum particulates are carried on the surface of the photocatalyst film 2. An exciting light 4 is absorbed onto the photocatalyst film 2 applied on the article 1 from one end of the article 1 which is not coated with the photocatalyst film 2, and an exciting electron 6 is generated at a conduction band and a positive hole 8 is generated at a valence band 7. The exciting electron 6 is collected at the noble metal superfine particulates 3 carried on the surface of the photocatalyst 2, and simultaneously the positive hole 8 is moved toward harmful org. particles 9 adsorbed on the surface of the photocatalyst 2, and the harmful org. particles 9 are subjected to an oxidative decomposition by a photocatalytic reaction with the oxygen and the positive hole around the org. particles and converted to a harmless decomposition product 10. |
