Sorting apparatus for biological cells and viruses

Sorting of magnetically marked cells or viruses, dispersed in fluids, in an arrangement which comprises a main channel (3) with diverter (11) having at least two outlet channels (19,20), one of which has a sorting device (12) for selective sepn. of magnetically marked cells. The system includes a number of such modules in parallel, feeding a collection channel for selected cells and a collective channel for unselected channels. At least 1 sensor (9, 10) is provided on each main channel, connected to the sorting device. The sensor is pref. an optical sensor which may be connected to the channel by an optical fibre.
