The hinge axis (8) can be outside the front wall (7) of the blasting chamber (1). The weight of the door can be roughly the same on each side of the axis, part of its surface can form a chute for loading the work, and a frame can be suspended from it to accommodate a skip for the work. A deflector plate (12) can be mounted on the inside of the door, which can be opened and shut by a geared motor or a ram. When shut, the door inside surface below the axis can bear against the outside of the chamber, while that above it bears against the chamber inside surface, there being sheet-metal components at the hinge axis on the door and chamber, together forming a labyrinth-type seal.
