<p>Prodn. of alpha -haloalkyl ethers of formula RO-CHR1-X (I) comprises reaction an acetal of formula RO-CHR1-OR (II) with HX or with SOX2 in the presence of a catalytic amt. of a N,N-di(lower alkyl) lower alkanoamide: R = mono- or di-substd. lower alkyl (with halogen and/or lower alkoxy substits, not bonded to the alpha C); R1 = H, lower alkyl, phenyl or phenyl-lower alkyl; X = Cl or Br.</p>
