A navigation device (100) for performing route guidance, having a GPS section (114) for acquiring current-position information by communicating with a GPS, a navigation information acquirement section (160) for receiving route data and map data relative to a selected route from a navigation server (300) storing route data and map data of a network (200), a guidance control section (120) for determining whether or not the current-position information was able to be acquired, and, when the current-position information was acquired, performing route guidance based on the acquired current-position information, a GPS communication control section (150) for shutting off the communication with the GPS when it is determined that the current-position information was not able to be acquired, and a server communication control section (170) for shutting off the communication with the navigation server (300) when it is determined that the current-position information was not able to be acquired. Power consumption is reduced when the current-position information is not acquirable, and burden of communication charge is reduced.
