PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel compound having a specified structure and suited as a chromophore constituent for, especially, nonlinearly optically active copolymer or for electro-optical and photonic devices. SOLUTION: There is provided compound of formula I(wherein R<1> , R<4> , and R<5> are each H, a 1-20C alkyl interrupted by 1-5 oxygen atoms in etheric functional groups, an aryl, or a heteroaryl; R<2> and R<3> are each H, a 1-20C alkyl interrupted by 1-5 oxygen atoms in etheric functional groups, benzyl, an aryl, or a heteroaryl (optionally having one hydroxyl or carboxyl group); Z is methylene or imide having a substituted electron acceptor; X is S, O, NR<6> (wherein R<6> is H, a 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, or naphthyl), a cyclic bond or formula II (wherein T together with CH, N, or Z forms -N-SO2 -C≡or the like); and Y is CH, CR<7> , or N (wherein R<7> is a 1-20C alkyl, phenyl, or naphthyl).
