PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noise generated at the time of removing refrigerant stagnant at indoor units in an off-state in a multi-type air conditioner. SOLUTION: Method for controlling the multi-type air conditioner including a step S21 for measuring indoor temperature, a step S22 for measuring a temperature of the refrigerant stagnant at the turned off indoor units, a step S23 for determining if a temperature difference of the refrigerant temperature and the indoor temperature is within a temperature range preset at a control part, a step S24 for opening the expansion valves of the turned off indoor units, if the temperature difference is within the temperature range preset at the control part, and a step S25 for closing the expansion valve of the turned off indoor units, if the temperature difference is not within the temperature range preset at the control part.
