The method for the loading of sintering material onto a sintering band in which the sintering material is transported from a delivery device onto the sintering band, roughly distributed, and the layer height of the sintering material equalized to a nominal layer thickness, entails carrying out the equalizing of the layer height by a horizontal transverse transporting onto the sintering band (6) which avoids a compacting of the sintering material (8). An independent claim is included for a device for the loading of sintering material onto a sintering band with a rotatably driven screw distributor (10) extending across the whole width of the sintering band.
