A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to decrease a reactive power by controlling on/off of a switch used for power recovery according to a variation in address data. Plural first switches(S1) are connected between a first voltage source and plural address electrodes and turned on when on-data is applied to a corresponding address electrode. The first voltage source supplies a first voltage. Plural second switches(S2) are connected between a second voltage source and the address electrodes and turned on when off-data is applied to a corresponding address electrode. The second voltage source supplies a second voltage. Plural third switches(S3) are connected between a power recovery source and the address electrodes and performs a first or second switching process according to a control signal. A controller compares a variation in data to be applied to the address electrodes in at least one sub-field with a threshold value, and outputs the control signal for the first or second switching of the third switch according to a compared result.
