A no-turn tool for use inline in a tubing string in a well bore for impeding rotation of the tubing string in an undesired direction. The tool consists of a tool bod y and a lug mounted at a side of the tool body that is pivotable between a projecting position and a retracted position and resiliently biased in the projecting position. Ribs project from the tool body opposite the lug. When the tool is installed in a tubing string in a we ll bore, contact between the lug and well-bore wall during rotation in the undesired directio n tends to cause the lug to pivot towards the projecting position so as to bring the lug and ribs into frictional contact with the well-bore wall, thus impeding further rotation in the undesired direction.
