The invention relates to a method for testing a component for leaks, in particular a closed container which is subjected on one side of the wall to a pressure and on the other side of the wall to a fine vacuum whose deterioration provides a measure for a leak. According to the invention, there is applied to the pressure side a test liquid which evaporates upon passing through a leak and impairs the pressure on the vacuum side substantially more clearly than could a test gas. Water and liquid gases can in particular be used as as test liquid. The testing for leaks can be linked to impregnation of the component by adding to the test liquid a solid in dissolved form which solidifies in the leak channels. <IMAGE>
