The machine for making plastics bags is supplied with a continuous length of plastics in the form of a flattened tube. The tube is cut into lengths of the required size at the bag forming station (14). One end of the length of tube is then sealed by the sealing bar (18) to complete the bag mfr. Each completed bag is then transferred to a stack secured by a pair of spikes (22). The bags are transferred by means of a rotor with radial arms (20). These arms (20) are hollow and are connected to a vacuum source to enable them to pick up the bags by suction. The end of each arm (20) is cut obliquely to facilitate the handling of the bags.
