In a mouse 1 of the type which generates an output signal in reponse to movement over a surface in order to control the position of a cursor on the display screen of a computer, the ratio of mouse movement to cursor movement may be varied by means of manually operable switch means 2 coupled to digital processing circuitry which modifies the output signal level. Thus the normal cursor movement may be produced by smaller movement of the mouse and the reflective plate used with an optical sensor mouse may be made smaller.
