PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device with which the easy check of the display is possible even in a dark place and the electric consumption is low. CONSTITUTION:A TN (twisted nematic) liquid crystal 16 is sealed between two sheets of glass plates 14 and 20. The outer flanks of the glass plates 14 and 20 are so provided with two sheets of polarizing plates 12 and 20 in such a manner that the polarization directions thereof intersect orthogonally with each other. Further, the outer flank of the polarizing plate 20 is provided with a reflection plate 22. The reflection plate 22 is coated with a material contg. a phosphor, for example, luminous paint, on the reflection surface thereof, i.e., the surface in contact with the polarizing plate 20. The luminous paint is generally produced by mixing the inorg. or org. phosphor with a color developing material. the coating film formed by using such luminous paint emits light for a sufficiently long time even in a dark place by the stimulus of light. |
