PRODUCTION OF POLYESTER KNITTED FABRIC

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester knitted fabric having downy hair-toned excellent fine touch feeling and softness along with water absorbability, by forming downy hair-toned fibrils on the fabric surface. CONSTITUTION: Polyester fibers containing >=20wt.% of modified polyester fibers bearing 0.1-8wt.% of an organosulfonic acid metal salt of general formula R-SO3 M (R is a 3-30C alkyl, 7-40C aryl or alkylaryl; M is an alkali metal) is woven or knitted, and the resultant knitted fabric is subjected to contact heat treatment under pressure using an exothermic body at >=120 deg.C and then put to caustic reduction treatment >=5wt.% in reduction rate in an aqueous solution of an alkaline compound to effect projection of fibrillated fiber ends on the surface of the final polyester knitted fabric.
