PURPOSE: To shorten scanning time and to reduce the power consumption of terminal equipment by alternately performing the scanning of peripheral channels, for which it is highly possible to find out a communicatable cell, and the scanning of all channels when the terminal equipment out of a service area zone looks for the communicatable cell. CONSTITUTION: '0' (the reception of all the channels) is set to a reception discrimination flag for instructing either the reception of all the channels or the reception of partial channels, '10' is set to a reception counter, two seconds are set to the timer value of waiting time, and '0' (a proximate area) is set to a condition flag for instructing either the proximate area or a distant area. A power source is turned on and it is discriminated whether the reception flag is '1' or '0'. When it is '0', a reception frequency is switched from f1 to fn and the scanning of all the channels at base stations 221 -22n is performed. When that flag is '1', the scanning of peripheral channels is performed. Next, in the case of a outgoing signal whose reception level is higher than reception enable sensitivity, '10' is set to the reception counter and information higher than a reference level is received. When the reception is normal, the reception channel is stored, whether it is inside the zone or not is discriminated and processing is finished. |
