Assembly of elastomer tubular component onto object with core whose rings have hooks at front and rear edges to prevent premature collapse due to inward pressure

In an assembly of an elastomer tubular component a tubular body (21) is produced and widened and a cylindrical core (14) formed by spiral winding of a strip is introduced into the tube. Front and rear gripping edges on the strip interlock with each other, the rear gripping edge facing inwards. An object to be covered by the tubular component is introduced into the core and the front end of the latter is pulled to uncoil the strip material from between the tubular body and the object inside. Independent claims are made for: (a) a core for holding the elastomer tube (21) with two different sized diameters and a tapering section between them produced by spiral winding of a strip (11) with a first gripping edge at the front engaging with a second gripping edge at the rear edge; (b) a tubular body comprising the core (14) and an elastomer tube, only the larger diameter part of which covers the core. Preferred Features: A first gripping area at the front edge of the strip has an outward facing hook while the second gripping area at the rear edge has an inward facing hook. The first gripping area faces the smaller diameter end of the core.
