Method for modifying data in a chip card transaction system that comprises a card reader for reading and writing card data. Method has the following steps: reading of a free memory address for writing of data to be recorded or modified from a preceding check register; writing of the new or modified record; repetition of the preceding steps for each record to modify or add; and writing of a new check record to a second memory address for use in the next transaction. The invention also relates to a corresponding system.
