<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent electric discharge from happening at the tip end of an electrode layer, and prevent short circuit from occurring between the opposing electrode layers. <P>SOLUTION: Piezoelectric/electrostrictive elements 18a, 18b are adapted such that, on a side 150 of a laminate of piezoelectric/electrostrictive layers 22 and electrode layers 24, 26 exposed to the outside, the ends 24a, 26a of the electrode layers 24, 26 protrude from an end surface 22a of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 22, and the amount t of the protrusion is ≤1/2 of the thickness Ld of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive layer 22 between the electrode layers 24, 26.
