PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new propanol derivative compound that has strong woody and umber smell and becomes a useful fragrance imparting agent, a perfume composition containing the compound, cosmetics, a health and hygiene material and a medicine containing the perfume composition. SOLUTION: The new compound is represented by general formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>3</SP>are each independently an alkyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an acyl group or an alkoxycarbonyl group).
