<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a stacked woody material, particularly stacked wood, by high-temperature heat treatment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: High-temperature heat treatment is conducted using an enclosed treatment space. The enclosed space for treating the stacked woody material including a means for treating the stacked woody material 5 to be treated is provided with a first chamber 8 which is a "raised-pressure chamber" located at the upstream of the stacked woody material 5 to be treated, a second chamber 9 as a "recovery chamber" located at the downstream of the stacked material, a heating means 10 for heating a heat-transfer fluid circulating in the enclosed space 1, a circulating means 11 for continuously circulating the heat-transfer fluid, a regulating means 12 for regulating the temperature and the humidity of the enclosed treatment space, and a sealing means for sealing the top portion and the bottom portion of the stacked material.
