Weighing apparatus 10 in the form of a floor assembly (e.g. the loading area of a vehicle (41, Fig.4) or the floor of a freight elevator (46, Fig.5)) comprises upper and lower support members 16, 12 and load sensor 14 there-between. The upper support member (which optionally includes an inner load-bearing plywood layer 18) is capable of limited translational movement relative to the lower support member; thus, under load, it moves towards the lower support such that the sensor is uniformly loaded and accurately senses the load applied. The apparatus may be modular such that the upper support member and load sensors are detachable. The upper and lower supports may be joined by fasteners (e.g. nuts and bolts and/or a spring) which guide and/or limit relative movement. Cooperating edges 20, 22 of the supports may enclose the sensor and guide the relative movement. The apparatus may include a further metal reinforcing grid (40, Fig. 3) whose intersection points correspond to sensors. |
