The device has a protection cage (9) of hollow split ring form which is open on its upper side to engage a sprinkler head independent of the device, where the device is not fixed to the head. Two cradles (110) act as lower cradles that are locked by respective upper complimentary cradles (113, 111) using locking units (11, 23d, 25d) in a separable manner. An independent claim is also included for a unit for protection against fire in a building including a sprinkler head protection device.
