PURPOSE:To obtain a new salt of a diamine-based compound, having high germicidal activity and a wide antimicrobial spectrum with hardly any skin irritation, good in biodegradability and useful for disinfecting humans, cattle, medical equipment, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound, e.g. N,N'-dihexyl-N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'- dibenzylhexamethylenediammonium dichloride expressed by formula I (R<1> is phenyl-lower alkyl having 1 to 3 groups such as halogen or nitro as a substituent group on the phenyl ring; R<2> is lower alkyl; R<3> is 5-IOC alkyl; A is 2-8C alkylene; X<-> is anionic group). The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound expressed by formula II with an acid halide in the presence of pyridine, etc., in a solvent, providing a compound expressed formula III, then reducing the compound expressed by formula III with a reducing agent composed of borohydride and acetic acid in a solvent, further alkylating the obtained compound with a compound expressed by the formula R<2>-X, affording a compound expressed by formula IV and reacting the obtained compound expressed formula IV with a compound expressed by the formula R<1>-X in a molar amount of 2 times based on the compound expressed by formula IV. |
