摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication system which prevents a code amount from being increased by maintaining a reference image in memory even if there are a signal error from a receiving side to a sending side and the delay of signal arrival. SOLUTION: An image signal receiving part 608 on an image receiving side detects the existence of an error of received image data and notifies the result to a signal receiving part 602 on an image sending side through a signal sending part 609. The part 602 notifies the existence or nonexistence of an error that is notified to a frame memory changing part 605. The part 605 performs write control so that one reference image sent from an encoding part 601 may surely remain in a frame memory part 603 when image data is correctly received according to the content of a signal from the part 602, and a reference image deciding part 604 selects an reference image in the part 603 and sends it to the part 601. The reference image number that is selected at the time is sent to the image receiving side through a reference image notifying part 606 for deciding a reference image at the time of decoding.</p>
