Perfluoroalkyltetrafluorosulfanyl derivatives of cyclic ethyne or ethene compounds (I) are new and have high thermal stability. Perfluoroalkyltetrafluorosulfanyl derivatives of cyclic ethyne or ethene compounds of formula (I) are new. R<1> = H, 1-12C alkyl or 2-12C alkenyl, which may be mono-substituted by CN or CF3 or at least mono-substituted by halogen and in which one or more non-adjacent -CH2- groups may be replaced by O, S, CO, 1,3-cyclobutylene, COO, OCO or OCOO; A<1>, A = (a) trans-cyclohexan-1,4-diyl, in which one or more non-adjacent CH2 groups may be replaced by O and/or S, (b) 1,4-phenylene, in which one or 2 CH groups may be replaced by N, (c) 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)-octylene, piperidin-1,4-diyl, naphthalen-2,6-diyl, decahydronaphthalen-2,6-diyl and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-2,6-diyl, (d) cyclohexen-1,4-diyl and groups (a), (b) and (d) may be substituted by CN, Cl or F; Q = -C equivalent to C- or -CX<1>=CX<2>-; X<1>, X<2> = H or F; Z = -COO-, -OCO-, -CH2O-, O, -OCH2-, -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, -C equivalent to C-, a single bond or a group of formula -(CF=CF)u- or (CF2)v; u, n = 1, 2 or 3; v = 2, 3 or 4; and m = 1-10.
