PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-speed switch for a water gate, for use as a switch mechanism capable of varying the speed at which the water gate opens; being usable as a combination of commercially available standard parts, and obtainable at low cost in a short period of delivery. SOLUTION: A low speed side electric motor 7 or a high speed side electric motor 8 is operatively and releasably connectable via changeover clutches 10 and 11 to a drive mechanism 3 for opening and closing the gate 1. When the gate 1 starts to open, the drive mechanism is operatively connected to the low speed side electric motor 7 and is released from the high speed side electric motor 8 to reduce the speed at which the gate opens. After the gate has opened by a predetermined amount, the drive mechanism is released from the low speed side electric motor 7 and operatively connected to the high speed side electric motor 8 to increase the speed at which the gate opens.
