PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sintering machine operating method in which a gas temperature in an exhaust system can be controlled and the corrosion of a sintering machine is excellent prevented, and without increasing a capacity of a exhaust fan and a circulating fan or without any adverse effect on the productivity or the quality of the sintered ore, the operation of the exhaust gas circulation type sintering machine is achieved. SOLUTION: A pipe (15) having a damper (16) is connected to an exhaust duct (14) from an air box group (6D) in a most distant area of the sintering machine, a means (17A) for measuring the exhaust gas temperature in the exhaust duct is provided on the downstream side of the pipe connection position, and the opening of a damper (16) is changed so that the exhaust gas temperature measured by a temperature measuring means (17A) is within the set temperature range to adjust the quantity of the exhaust gas from the air box group (6D) in the most distant area of the sintering machine.
