A front pillar (1), to which the passenger cabin end of a hood ridge panel (2) is connected, is arranged to have different localized structural deformation resistance which buckle/deform in a manner which causes the hood ridge panel (2) to reorient in response to a vehicle structure deforming force being applied to the front of the vehicle during a collision. This results in the force which passes through the hood ridge panel (2) and is redirected by a load-converting and transmitting member (21), included in the pillar (1), up and along an upper rearwardly angled upper portion (1B) of the pillar. This force redirection produces sufficient resistance to induce compressive buckling in the structure forward to the passenger cabin and thus attenuate damage to the cabin structure.

|
