PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is the easiest to see when viewed from the front. SOLUTION: A prism array (23) is formed on the front side surface (22) of a light guide plate (20) and its trough (23a) and its crest (23b) are extended in a direction Y. The light made incident from an incident surface (21) of the light guide plate into the light guide plate is totally reflected in the inside of the prism array and goes from the rear side surface (24) toward a liquid crystal main body (10). A portion of the light going toward the liquid crystal main body is transmitted through the liquid crystal main body, goes toward a reflection plate (30), is reflected on a reflection surface (31) of the front side of the reflection plate and then goes out of the front side surface of the light guide plate to the outside through the liquid crystal main body and the light guide plate. The reflection surface (31) of the front side of the reflection plate is formed in a rugged surface 32 where a sharp trough (32a) and a sharp crest (32b) are extended in the direction Y to be parallel to each other. The luminance distribution of the light outgoing from the front side surface of the light guide plate in the plane extended in the direction Y-Z has the maximum luminance in the direction Z and the liquid crystal display device has the maximum luminance and is the easiest to see when viewed from the front.
