摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bevel gear cutting apparatus for finishing a partially fabricated product of a spiral bevel gear having already formed tooth spaces, by which a machining-start position of the first one of the partially fabricated products the machining-start position of which is not yet set, can be automatically set. SOLUTION: In a work piece co-ordinate system in which an apex of a pitch cone of a partially fabricated product 66 is an origin OW of an axis XW of a work piece, a probe 104 of a touch sensor is positioned at a position where the distance from the origin OW along the axis XW is D and the distance from the axis XW perpendicular to the axis XW is R, and the partially fabricated product is preliminarily positioned so that a tooth flank 68 of one side of one of the tooth spaces of the partially fabricated product comes into contact with the probe. After that, the partially fabricated product is turned from this position by the setting angle determined by calculation in advance and, in addition, the partially fabricated product and a face milling cutter are positioned at a final relative position determined by calculation in the same way. When gear cutting motions are given to the partially fabricated product and the face milling cutter after carrying out this final positioning process, the partially fabricated product is machined to the required spiral bevel gear.
