A flame arrester insert and a process for producing the same are provided to achieve a simple and safe operation and a high corrosion resistance. A flame arrester insert includes: a first metal strip(1), formed in a flat shape; and a second metal strip(2), formed in a grooved shape. A process for producing the flame arrester insert includes the steps of: winding the two metal strips together in such a manner that they are laminated so as to build up many contact points(3) after a winding step, and so a gap(4) between the contact points, through which a fluid is passed, wherein the surface of the two metal strips is coated with a coating solution in a wet method before the winding step so as to build up a surface coating(5) for fixing the contact points between them.
