METHOD FOR MELTING TREATMENT OF PHOSPHORUS-CONTAINING SUBSTANCE AND MELTING FURNACE OPERATION METHOD

Provided is an economical method for melting treatment of a phosphorus-containing substance, the method being capable of reducing the mixing of iron phosphide-containing metallic phosphorus compounds into the slag while limiting volatilization of phosphorus components. The method for melting treatment of a phosphorus-containing substance comprises: a pre-treatment step for adjusting the water content of a phosphorus-containing substance containing at least 0.04 wt% of phosphorus in terms of dry matter; a melting step for placing the phosphorus-containing substance from which water was removed in the pre-treatment step into a melting furnace and melting; and a cooling step for cooling and solidifying the slag produced in the melting step. Performing an iron compound-adding step for adding a divalent or trivalent iron compound to the phosphorus-containing substance in or near the pre-treatment step prevents volatilization of phosphorus components contained in the phosphorus-containing substance in the melting step while also limiting transfer of the phosphorus components to iron phosphide-containing metallic phosphorus compounds and trapping the phosphorus components in the slag.
