An artificial lung is provided which can suppress the escape of plasma components (blood plasma leaks) after circulation, even through thin hollow fibers. This method is for producing an artificial lung which has multiple porous hollow fiber membranes for gas exchange that comprise a hydrophobic polymer material. The hollow fiber membranes have an inner surface forming an inner lumen, and an outer surface. The outer surface and the lumen-forming inner surface of the hollow fiber membrane are coated by a polymer-containing solution which contains a solvent and a polymer having a constituent unit derived from alkoxyalkyl(meth)acrylate represented in formula (I) and which has a surface tension of 40-55 dyn/cm.
