PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacturing of a water-activated battery and reduce the irregularity in the quantity of its active materials and in its electric conductivity, by pressfitting a powder of silver in the surface of a plate of silver chloride to make a positive electrode plate, and using the positive electrode plate to construct the battery. CONSTITUTION:Acetone is added to a powder of silver, which has a grain diameter of 2 to 10mu, so that a slurry is made. The slurry is almost uniformly applied to the obverse and reverse sides of a plate of silver chloride so that the density of the powder of silver is 10 to 20mg/cm<2>. When the slurry is dried as a result of the evaporation of the acetone, the plate is sandwiched between nonwoven nylon fabrics of 0.2mm in thickness each. The plate of silver chloride sandwiched between the nonwoven fabrics is then pressed at pressure of 1 to 2kg/cm<2> by a press machine having a stopper, so that the thickness of the plate becomes a prescribed value. The nonwoven fabrics are thereafter removed from the plate. A silver chloride electrode is thus provided as a positive electrode plate. The positive electrode plate is used to construct a water- poured battery whose discharging properties ties are good and whose production is easy. The irregularity in the quantity of the active materials of the battery and in its electric conductivity is small. |
