In a spring operating mechanism for a circuit interrupter the rotational force of an electric motor causes a pawl (32, 33) to be rocked to rotate a rachet wheel (19) securely mounted to a main shaft (17) to charge a closing spring (37), and charged energy of the closing spring (37) is used for the closing and the tripping of the circuit interrupter. The operating mechanism is characterized in that the main shaft (17) is provided with a one-way rotary clutch (47).
