摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a composite material having increased fracture toughness without deteriorating high strength by adding silicon carbide whiskers and diopside glass to yttria-contg. zirconia ceramics and hot-pressing them. CONSTITUTION:When silicon carbide whiskers are added to yttria-contg. zirconia ceramics and a composite material is produced, diopside glass is added as a sintering aid and hot pressing is carried out at 1,300-1,400 deg.C. The diopside glass is preferably glass powder having a compsn. consisting of 22-30wt.% calcium oxide, 12-21wt.% magnesium oxide and 53-60wt.% silicon dioxide. The glass powder used may be mixed with <=100wt.% alumina powder and/or <=5wt.% zirconia powder.
