PURPOSE:To produce hollow fiber of porous type which is suitably useful as a material for woven and knitted fabrics excellent in see-through proofness, heat-retaining properties, light weight and water absorption by leaching out the island parts in a specific sea-island type conjugated fiber. CONSTITUTION:A polymer resistant to alkali at >=30% water absorption, for example, a saponified ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer is used as a sea component, while a polymer having an alkaline dissolution rate ranging from 30X10<-8> to 130X10<-8>cm/sec in 40g/l aqueous NaOH at 80 deg.C, for example, a polyethylene terephthalate copolymer copolymerized with 5-sodiumsulfoisophthalic acid, a polyethylene glycol and an oyxyalkylene group-compound is used as an island component to give a conjugated fiber of sea-island type. The conjugated fibers are treated with an alkali to leach out the island component to give hollow fiber of porous type satisfying the expression 1-<=2[X/(npi)]<1/2=10 where X is the total area of the hollow part on the fiber cross section in mu<2>, (n) is a number of the hollow parts and an integer of 2 or more in the hollow part of the cross-section perpenclicular to the fiber axis. |
