Enamel coating a glass surface comprises using a printing ink contg. an inorganic binder, at least one cpd. having a low m. pt. and being capable of vitrifying and one or more constituents having high melting points, such as pigments. The inorganic binder is an aq. suspension of a metallic oxide having a granulometry in the order of nm, which undergoes polycondensation when heated and forms a non-hydrolysable glass. After drying the coating is fired at 500-700 degrees C.
