<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for assigning and storing texture data for a texture mapping computer graphics system. SOLUTION: Texture data contains at least a series of texture MIP maps. Each MIP map is divided into at least two map divisions and the divisions are assigned to a plurality of data blocks having the same size. The size of the map divisions is smaller than one data block. The blocks are stored in the main memory 17 of a system and down-loaded to the local memory 48 of the system as necessary at least one block by one block. When the blocks are down-loaded, each block is stored in either the first or second bank of at least one SDRAM constituting the local memory 48.</p> |
