The injector (3) has no integral valves and is linked to the pressurised fuel feed line (2) by a simple on/off valve (10 operated by a cam follower on the camshaft. The return flow for excess fuel, from the injector is controlled by an on/off solenoid valve controlled by sensors (8,10) for a timing mark (9) on the camshaft. The output signals from the sensors are amplified before being connected to the solenoid. The control of pressure between the two valves opens and closes the injector.
