<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a seal in an unflared pipe joint which is initially joined to one of connecting elements and which uses a pipe grip element separated on a pipe end from one of the connecting elements during assembly. <P>SOLUTION: When partially tightened, a ferrule is interlocked with a cam surface (88) of a male screw member (54), ruptured or separated from a female screw member (52) so as to be turned into a separated piece. Thus, the joint functions as a single ferrule pipe joint. The pipe joint is also characterized as follows: a steep cam angle on the cam surface (88) is provided; a bite-in-type action makes the pipe end gripped by the ferrule (80); and a first seal is formed between the cam surface (88) and a front end of the separated ferrule. The front end of the ferrule and the whole female screw member (52) optionally including a first one pipe grip device (80) are so hardened as to become at least about 3.3 times harder than a material for the pipe end. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
