Pipette unit with removable tips consisting of a plunger (10) and associated piston (12) running in cylinder (13), by which air is displaced through the capillary (48) in shaft (5) at the end (6) of which the pipette tip (7) is fitted. A coupling (11) connects piston (12) to the plunger so that, as the piston contact the end (47) of shaft (5) it is disengaged from disk (41) and exerts no further force as disk (41) travels further towards the end (54) of tube (50) to strip off the tip.
