The chambers (80,82-86,90,92,94,96) are joined to one another by narrow passages (64,66,68,70,32,34,36) in series for flow purposes. In operation. The chambers have oil-charged gas flowing through them, which is fed in via an inlet (9). Oil precipitates on the walls of the chamber and gas liberated from the oil is fed away via an outlet (7). In at least one chamber (80,82-86) a syphon (40,48,42,50,44,52,46,54) is provided with an oil outlet (49-55) for oil precipitated on the walls of the chambers. The chambers are sealed against a leak of gas. Each cross wall (24,26,28,56-62) via a slot (32,34,36,64,66,68,70) produces a flow connection to a succeeding chamber.
